Moses Itauma fought four times last year, winning each time by knockout, moving his record to 11-0 (9 KOs). Among the young heavyweight’s victories: a two-rounder over Mariusz Wach in July and then a two-minute drubbing of Demsey McKean in December. Itauma celebrated his 20th birthday one week after the win over McKean.
He’s expecting to be back in a couple of months on a show in Liverpool, England.
As for the opponent? “We don’t know yet,” he said. “Literally just before I jumped on this call, I was talking with my team to see who the next victim is, but we don’t know yet.”
That’s not a new thing for Itauma, who said 15 fighters turned down the December bout with him before McKean agreed and stepped in.
“We’re going to call out a couple of names, and who accepts the fight, accepts the fight,” he said.
Itauma does have a wish list, though some of those names may be better suited for another date in the near future given their recent activity or upcoming obligations.
“Justis Huni had a good win today. He can get it,” Itauma said. “[Kubrat] Pulev, I personally don’t want to fight him because he’s old, but he has one version of a world title [the secondary WBA “regular” title], so I guess he can get it. [Filip] Hrgovic, he’s a very, very well-ranked contender. I will probably want his position, so he can get it. Otto Wallin, if he beats Derek Chisora, he can probably get it. The list is endless. The fights that can be made at heavyweight, they’re good fights.”
