2020 Olympic Cuban Andy Cruz hopes Keyshawn succeeds in his title challenge against WBO lightweight champion Denys Berinchyk on February 14th. Cruz says he wants to take the WBO belt from Keyshawn (12-0, 8 KOs) if he wins it. Berinchyk vs. Keyshawn will be shown on ESPN and ESPN+. The event starts at 9:00 p.m. ET/6:00 PT.

Andy refers to Davis as “my son” due to his many victories over him. However, he still wants him to defeat Berinchyk (19-0, 9 KOs) next month. He says he’ll be watching the fight.

A History Of Domination

That would be Cruz’s fifth victory over Keyshawn. His record is a perfect 4-0, and he’s repeatedly called out the Top Rank-promoted Davis since he turned pro, but with no luck. Keyshawn doesn’t want to lose again, so he makes excuses.

Even if Davis defeats Berinchyk, he won’t defend the WBO title against Cruz. That’s the last person he would consider fighting because he knows what will happen if they fight.

That would be like Keyshawn giving away the WBO belt. He already said what he hopes to do if he gets his hands on the belt. Davis says he wants to use it to try to lure WBA lightweight champion Gervonta Davis into a unification fight. That’s a pipe dream that has no chance of happening because Tank is focusing on fighting popular fighters.

Keyshawn’s Excuses For Not Fighting Andy Cruz

  • “He’s not ready yet. He doesn’t have a fan base. His entire fan base is built around me.”
  • “That man ain’t trying to fight me. I will knock him out. He’s just not ready.”
  • “We already sent them a contract. I already got on live with Eddie Hearn and said to set up the fight. I don’t know what more y’all want me to do [to make the Andy Cruz fight].

I don’t know how Keyshawn could say with a straight face that Cruz isn’t “ready” to fight him, when he beat him four times in the amateurs and has looked better than him in the pros. Davis has looked poor in his fights against Nahir Albright and Miguel Madueno. Those are the only two semi-good fighters Keyshawn has fought since he turned professional. The rest of them were scrubs.

“My Son”

“I believe my son has improved a lot. I hope he wins the belt to see if I can take it from him for the 5th time,” said Andy Cruz to YSM Sports Media, reacting to Keyshawn David challenging WBO lightweight champion Denys Berinchyk on February 14th.

“Of course, I will watch that fight. What kind of father will not watch their son?” said Cruz when asked if he’ll watch the Keyshawn vs. Berinchyk fight.
