Denys Berinchyk expects to keep hold of his WBO world title when he takes on challenger Keyshawn Davis.
This Friday Keyshawn Davis gets his shot at his first world title when he challenges WBO lightweight champion Denys Berinchyk. Both fighters appeared for a final press conference today and things appear to be getting off to a relatively tame start until Davis accused Berinchyk of making racist gestures.
“I want to address the fact that this guy came to America to give me bananas and watermelon with a note on it,” Davis said. “It’s unprofessional and I feel like it’s racist, and you just made this fight a little more personal.
“This man brought a box of bananas and a watermelon to America to bring to my room and I took it as racist, so I got something for you.”
Berninchyk and his team didn’t directly respond to Davis’ claim other than to suggest Davis is looking for an axe to grind to hype himself up for the fight. Berinchyk was a short time later asked whether he believes Davis is too inexperienced for a fighter like himself.
“I have 350 fights and wins in amateurs,” Berinchyk would explain. “I have more than 500 victorious street fights, and I have one bare knuckle fight, also victorious.”
That would seemingly get Davis a little more animated as he would rise from his heat to talk to Berinchyk at close quarters while pointing in his face.
“All that sh-t you talking about, I don’t care. I’m going to f-ck you up, Friday,” Davis said. “I don’t care about none of your experience, amateur experience, I don’t care about your silver medal…I don’t care about none of that, I’m going to f-ck you up, Friday.”
“This is rude language, my brother,” responded Alex Krassyuk with a grin.
“If it touched you to the bottom of your heart, train harder, work harder. This is your time, tonight at this press conference. My time is Friday night,” Berinchyk would add.
