Anthony Joshua suffered another knockout loss to an underdog, but says this won’t be the end for him.
Anthony Joshua suffered another big setback this past weekend when he was beat down by Daniel Dubois, forcing a fifth round knockout. Joshua has designs on winning the IBF world title from Dubois en route to making a run at undisputed, but now those plans appear much less likely.
Many have offered their opinions that Joshua might want to consider retirement after getting throttled by Dubois, but for his part Joshua says he fully intends to keep his career going.
“Probably you’re asking: ‘Do I still want to continue fighting?’ Of course I want to continue fighting,” Joshua said.
Joshua would continue by saying that he took his shot at regaining world title status at the top level of the sport and came up short, but that he’s not inclined to just run away from the sport after this defeat.
“We have to give credit to our opponent as well, Daniel. Well done to him and his team and also thank you to my team as well for the way they prepared for me. There were a few mistakes in there but that’s the name of the game,” Joshua said. “Fine margins can cost you at the top level.”
A contractual rematch between Joshua and Dubois appears to be on the table although it isn’t necessarily a guarantee to happen, and Joshua’s Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn says he knows for a fact that Joshua won’t be motivated to fight a tune up at this point of his career. Therefore Joshua will be eying another big fight, but they know their next choice of opponent will surely be an important one considering what has just transpired.
