Lawrence Okolie is negotiating a bout with Luis Ortiz as he looks to make his heavyweight run.

After two brief stoppage win stoppage wins in his move to heavyweight, Lawrence Okolie is said to be in negotiations to make a fight against former world title contender Luis Ortiz, per ESPN’s sources for a fight that could be held in the UK.

Okolie has only fought two rounds in the past year, stopping Lukasz Rozanski and Hussein Muhamed in one round apiece and now looks to take a step back up in competition, even if it may come against a 45-year-old ‘King Kong.’ Ortiz fought once last year in an easy first round stoppage of unheralded Francisco Cordero but has been largely inactive since 2022.

Since Okolie signed with Queensberry promotions he’s expressed his interest in making a run at a heavyweight world title as well as keep an active schedule. Okolie has obviously been taking incremental steps since departing the cruiserweight division and hopes that a potential win over Ortiz might nudge himself forward in his pursuit that championship goal, but it’s unclear how much Ortiz still has to offer at this stage.
