The latest comeback of Oliver McCall, 59, continued when Gary Cobia, 52 years old and having his first fight since 2015, failed to answer the bell for the second round.
The fight, such as it was, took place at Nashville’s Texas Troubadour Theatre, the same venue that hosted McCall’s November victory over Stacy Frazier, 54.
McCall is now 61-14 (40 KOs) and a little under 30 years removed from his signature victory; the two-round KO of Lennox Lewis which netted the “Atomic Bull” the WBC heavyweight title.
Known for his durability, McCall would then beat Larry Holmes, lose the title to Frank Bruno, before his infamous breakdown in the Lewis return. McCall would, however, hang around the heavyweight ranks as a reliable gatekeeper until 2014.
