Swedish heavyweight Otto Wallin is flying back to New York knowing that whatever he tried on Saturday night was not enough to stop the marauding heavyweight contender Derek Chisora.

Chisora notched his third consecutive win, adding Wallin’s scalp to Gerald Washington’s and Joe Joyce’s, with a unanimous decision after 12 rounds at the Co-op Live Arena in Manchester.

There are many who don’t think Chisora, aged 41 and 49 fights into a hard, 18-year career, should still be fighting. But if he was 10-0 and had shown the form he is in, the hype train would have pulled up.

You can’t deny the damage he had endured, but he’s also a viable top 10 heavyweight and afterward named Daniel Dubois, trained by Chisora’s old trainer Don Charles, Anthony Joshua – part of the same 258 management that looks after AJ – and former opponent Oleksandr Usyk as possible foes. Promoter Frank Warren said he would try to deliver the one Chisora wanted for his 50th and final fight.

In the opposite corner, the Joey Gamache-trained Wallin was left to lament what might have been. Chisora knew he had been in a fight, said both of his ear drums had burst early in the fight and his swollen and cut eyes were closing by the end of the fight, partly from head clashes and partly from sharp Wallin left hands.

Southpaw Wallin is now 27-3 (15 KOs) and the 34-year-old conceded he had not delivered.

“Chisora fought a good fight and he’s a tough and experienced guy,” Wallin told BoxingScene.

“I will have to go back and watch the tape to assess my performance but all and all, it wasn’t enough and congrats to Derek.”
