Promoter Frank Warren has heard former IBF heavyweight champion Charles Martin call out his young contender Moses Itauma and has welcomed the fight.

Warren, who has deep investment in the heavyweight division with several leading contenders – as well as IBF champion Daniel Dubois – said he would be open to making the match with Martin, who lost his title to another Brit, Anthony Joshua, back in 2016.

Southpaw Martin is 30-4-1 (27 KOs), and said he was keen to test the abilities of young Itauma, who was 2024’s Prospect of the Year and presently 11-0 (9 KOs).

“I love it. You’ve got all these former world champions and all these guys coming out and challenging guys who’ve just turned 20 years of age and had 10 fights,” Warren said of Martin naming Itauma.I think it’s brilliant. I’m interested in all these fights with Moses. It’s part of his quest and his drive to win a world title. If he’s as good as we all believe he is, and a lot of people besides me think he is, I think they’re the fights that down the road we’ll certainly be making.”

Asked whether Itauma could have a shot at WBA regular champion Kubrat Pulev, Warren added: “There’s so many options there. At the moment, three of the belts are owned by Mr. Usyk, and the other one is with Daniel. Daniel, as you know, is defending that on the 22nd February Riyadh Season show against Joe Parker. We’ll see how all the dust settles before we do that.”

Another heavyweight on the Queensberry books is Fabio Wardley, coming off an impressive first round destruction of Frazer Clarke.

“I want to see him in a big fight and he will have a couple of big fights this year,” said Warren. “We’re working on something at the moment which I think everybody’s going to like and I’m definitely looking to get him out and give him his dream of fighting at Ipswich.”
