Artur Beterbiev’s trainer, Marc Ramsay, says they now have information on Dmitry Bivol that they’ll be using for their rematch on February 22nd in Riyadh. Ramsay isn’t saying what he’s learned, but it’s obvious from watching their previous fight that Bivol (23-1, 12 KOs) mentally collapses when pressured hard. Be breaks.
Bivol’s Weakness
Bivol was at his best in their previous fight on October 12th, when Beterbiev (21-0, 20 KOs) fought tentatively, throwing few punches and being cautious of being hit by the faster combinations. That slow style, also used by Canelo Alvarez against Bivol, didn’t work well for Beterbiev.
When Beterbiev was on the attack at the midpoint of the fight, Bivol showed his true colors, revealing he could not deal with a full-on attack for three minutes of every round. He’s mentally weak for that type of fighting.
Beterbiev will defend his undisputed light heavyweight championship against former WBA champ Bivol in a rematch at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The event will be shown live on DAZN PPV. If Bivol wins, there will be a trilogy. A victory for Beterbiev means he moves on and will defend against WBC mandatory David Benavidez next. ‘The Mexican monster’ Benavidez will be ringside for the Beterbiev-Bivol 2 fight.
“Of course, there’s always new information that we have from the previous fight. Of course, this is a little bit different but a very good camp,” said Beterbiev’s trainer, Marc Ramsay to DAZN Boxing about his fighter Artur Beterbiev’s training for his rematch with Dmitry Bivol on February 22nd.
“The fact that we have some information now. We’ve faced the guy [Bivol]. We know him a little bit more. That’s also true for himself. Like he knows us a little bit better, but we have more information to start the training camp,” said Ramsay.
Body Shot Focus
“There’s no liver in this side. You have to hit him on this side [right side of abdomen]. That’s why you have to hit him with a left hook,” said coach John Scully to Beterbiev. “That’s why, the liver.”
Beterbiev didn’t throw many body shots in his previous fight against Bivol on October 12th. One reason is that Bivol was always moving around the ring and rarely close enough for Beterbiev to throw a shot. He would throw and then retreat while holding his left hand far out in front of him in an Eastern European style to keep Artur from getting close.
For Beterbiev to land body shots, he must move faster and swat down the lead guard that Bivol uses as he retreats. Ideally, it would be easier for Artur if Bivol was right in front of him, but that’s not his style. He doesn’t do that for anyone, especially against a big puncher.
The strength of @ABeterbiev though 😳
