Johnny Fisher has been forced out of his Sept. 28 heavyweight bout against Andriy Rudenko, which was scheduled to take place at the Copper Box Arena in London. An unspecified injury has been citied as the reason.
The WBO lightweight title fight between Rhiannon Dixon and Terri Harper will now top the card in Sheffield, 175 miles north of Britain’s capital and the original site for the troubled bill.
Dalton Smith was supposed to take on Jon Fernandez in the initial headliner until Smith suffered an injury. The card was then switched to London, with Fisher – a huge ticket-seller in the UK – named as the new star attraction. Then he, like Smith, fell injured.
BoxingScene understands that Matchroom Boxing were keen to avoid cancelling the entire card following Fisher’s withdrawal yesterday (Sept. 5) despite the popular British heavyweight accounting for the vast majority of tickets sold.
As of 11am (EST) today, “work was being done in the background to move the undercard elsewhere”.
Presuming there are no more mishaps, Dixon and Harper will collide over 10-twos, inside the Canon Medical Arena, while Peter McGrail and Brad Foster provide a tasty crossroads bout, Cameron Vuong takes on Joe Underwood Hughes and George Liddard will battle George Davey.
Also set to appear on the DAZN-televised show are Jimmy Sains, Giorgio Visioli, Brandon Scott, Ibraheem Sulaimaan and Josh Babb.
