Both Alexis Rocha and Santiago Dominguez picked up wins in March
Golden Boy Promotions isn’t ready to cut bait on Alexis Rocha just yet, as “Lex” will headline a July 19th Golden Boy Fight Night opposite Santiago Dominguez.
The pair actually shared an undercard on March’s Arsen Goulamirian vs “Zurdo” Ramirez show. Rocha (24-2, 16 KO), fighting for the first time since last October’s hiding at the hands of Giovani Santillan, picked up a seventh-round finish of Frederick Lawson, while Dominguez (27-0, 20 KO) failed to impress in a 10-round split decision over Jose Luis Sanchez.
This looks to be a make-or-break fight for both men. Rocha is still just 26 and both his losses came against solid fighters, but it’ll be a rough climb back into the spotlight if he falls here. As for the 32-year-old Dominguez, this might be his only shot at the big time.
“I’m thankful to Golden Boy, DAZN and my entire team for the chance to headline another card,” said Rocha. “I’ve already proven that I was able to come back after a loss. My losses don’t define me. What defines me is the way I respond to the losses. This next fight is another test in me realizing my ultimate dream of becoming world champion. I’m focused on more knockouts for the fans.”
Dominguez said: “I am very excited for the opportunity from Golden Boy. Alexis Rocha is a great fighter – I have followed his career and he is well respected. On the fight night though, Alexis Rocha will find a fighter that is coming to win. It will be a great fight, our styles will really collide. This fight will end in a knockout.”
