Elvis Rodriguez parted ways with Top Rank after a 2021 loss to Kenneth Sims Jr
Nearly three years after parting ways with Top Rank, super lightweight contender Elvis Rodriguez has rejoined the promotion ahead of a June 29th return on the Teofimo Lopez vs Steve Claggett undercard.
“It truly feels great to be back home. I have always felt like a Top Rank fighter,” Rodriguez said. “Top Rank made me a star, and they will make me a champion. I am looking forward to June 29. Elvis will finally be back in the building! It’s been a long layoff, the longest of my career, but I am 100 percent focused on June 29.”
Top Rank cut bait in 2021 after Rodriguez (15-1-1, 13 KO) dropped a unanimous decision to Kenneth Sims Jr, a loss that’s aged quite well thanks to Sims’ ongoing success. Undeterred, he joined forces with PBC to rattle off four straight wins, the most recent of which saw him demolish Viktor Postol last July.
It’s good to see the eminently watchable Rodriguez land on his feet amid PBC’s turmoil and I’m sure Top Rank is grateful to have another credible challenger for Lopez should “The Takeover” emerge victorious and not pursue free agency. We’ll bring word once we know his opponent.
