Badou Jack needs a new opponent for his return to Riyadh Season next month after Ryan Rozicki suffered a training injury

The WBC’s cruiserweight woes continued late yesterday when Ryan Rozicki, slated to meet champion Badou Jack on the May 3rd Canelo Alvarez vs William Scull undercard, withdrew after suffering a biceps tear in training.

Per Jake Donovan, Don King has put forth champion-in-recess Noel Mikaelian as an alternative, claiming the relevant parties “are in the process of negotiating a deal.” On paper, it’s the ideal solution, especially since Mikaelian is already scheduled for a squash match two weeks later.

The issue, of course, is that Don King is Don King. The man shuts down more major fights than he puts together nowadays and in fact cost Mikaelian the belt in the first place by keeping him out of action for all of 2024 amid a legal dispute.

We’ll let you know if and when Jack gets a new dance partner. For now, Bruno Surace vs Jaime Munguia 2 and Efe Ajagba vs Martin Bakole remain intact.
