Ryan Garcia has been suspended for a full year.
Ryan Garcia has been suspended one year by the New York State Athletic Commission (NYSAC), and will also forfeit $1 million to Golden Boy Promotions, along with a $10,000 NYSAC fine.
Garcia’s Apr. 20 win over Devin Haney at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center will be officially changed to a no-contest, which would return Haney to a 31-0 (15 KO) record and put Garcia back at 24-1 (20 KO).
Garcia failed his post-fight drug test after the victory, where he first missed weight by a substantial margin, then dropped Haney three times en route to a majority decision win.
Though Garcia has denied purposely using any banned substances, the end result is a fine, suspension, and forfeiture of a good sum of money.
The suspension likely dates to Garcia’s last fight, so it would be up in April 2025, which would rule out Garcia fighting this year. He could fight elsewhere, in theory, but the commissions around the world generally work together in a situation like this and don’t step on toes.
