Ryan Garcia says he wants to take a tune-up when he returns to action in early 2025. His suspension expires on April 20, 2025, and he’ll have been out of the ring for a year. Garcia is coming off a victory over Devin Haney last April in Brooklyn in a fight that resembled a massacre.

Garcia doesn’t say who he has in mind for his tune-up when he returns, but someone like Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero would be ideal. That fight would sell while giving Ryan a tune-up to get back in the ring to get the rust out.

Ryan calls his suspension “Jail” because it’s kept him from competing, making money, and taking advantage of his fame. With that performance, Ryan could have been making big bucks fighting Haney in a rematch, Gervonta Davis, Teofimo Lopez, or Shakur Stevenson. The options that would have been available for Ryan were limitless.

The win has taken Ryan’s popularity to the next level. Unfortunately, he tested positive for a banned substance, Ostanine, and was subsequently suspended by the New York Commission. His win was removed, and Haney’s loss was cleansed from his record.

Being suspended prevents Ryan from taking advantage of the fame he received from the fight. It’s also messed up that Haney, who has been left in suspended animation, cannot attempt to avenge his loss in a rematch. The suspension hurt Haney more than Ryan because he couldn’t redeem himself.

If not for the suspension, the two fighters would have likely already booked a lucrative rematch. Haney hasn’t fought since his loss, but he’s expected to return in December to stay active.
