Boxing analyst Dan Rafael reports that superstar Ryan Garcia’s B-sample was opened today before his rep. The results of the B-sample won’t be known for a couple of days, potentially into next week, because of the weekend and Memorial Day holiday on Monday.

Crucial Test for Ryan’s Future

The B sample test will either confirm or clear Ryan (25-1, 20 KOs) for his positive PED tests from last April for his fight against Devin Haney, which he won. If the B sample turns out to be positive, Ryan could face a suspension and be fined.

Haney wants a win over Ryan handed to him on a silver platter without actually earning it. That’s a weak method of winning.

Haney and his promoter, Eddie Hearn, want Ryan’s victory overturned, with him given a loss and the win going to Devin’s record. If Ryan’s B sample result is negative, he can move forward with his career with the PED issue, a thing of the past.

Haney needs to take his loss, and wait to try and avenge it in the ring against Ryan.He should want Ryan’s B sample to be negative because he absolutely needs a rematch to redeem himself, and that can’t happen if Garcia is suspended a year or two.

Haney would be forced to move on and fight other opposition at 140 or, ideally, move up to 147. Devin can’t save face until he gets that rematch with Ryan, but that’s not going to happen if he’s stuck on the sidelines dealing with a suspension.

Without the rematch, Haney’s options are limited. He can pick off some of the game fish, like Sandor Martin, but if he chooses risky opposition, like Subriel Matias, Isaac Cruz, or Teofimo Lopez, his career could go belly up.  Haney would be risking his career for only a small amount of the kind of money he’d get in a rematch with Ryan.
