Ryan Garcia says he never intended to take banned substances but a last minute supply from ‘Scooter’ must’ve been the cause of his positive drug test.
During an Instagram Live stream today, Devin Haney’s trainer and father Bill was able to confront Ryan Garcia about his positive drug test in a fight that just recently ruled a no contest. When provided the opportunity, Bill Haney pressed Ryan Garcia on the issue and why he would cheat in the fight against his son.
“I’m saying it to your face,” Garcia began. “I never cheated, I never would cheat, I’ve never cheated in my career. Whatever I got popped for, had to be tainted and I don’t care what you say, I don’t care what nobody say, I know I never cheated in my life. And I put that on my mom that has cancer.”
At that point Haney asked Ryan about why he would plead guilty to the usage with NYSAC if he professes his innocence.
“It was either that or I go to the court, or the hearing, and even if I win the hearing they said that no matter what they could suspend me. So I just took the year and said whatever. I know I didn’t cheat, I don’t need to cheat.”
Haney would continue by asking how the ostarine got into his system, which prompted a response from Garcia that certainly doesn’t come across as shady, whatsoever.
“They guy that came to help me lose weight, his name was Scooter, he bought me supplements and I took the supplements and that was the day before the fight and it just so happens that I tested (positive) the day before and the day after,” Garcia said. “So a guy came in to help me lose weight and I took the supplements he gave me, and for sure those are the ones…
“You know the bathtub technique,” Garcia continued. “Where you get the Epsom salt and it’s hot as f—k and they wrap you up in the towel and then you re-do it over and over again. So that’s what I was doing all night, trying to lose that weight, and my body stopped at 143 lbs. I couldn’t continue, I was hurting myself.”
Haney would the ask Garcia to name the specific supplement that was tainted for the sake of public awareness. Garcia, however, insisted that he didn’t know the name of the specific supplement which drew skepticism from Haney.
“Ryan, that sounds like a lie, right?” Bill Haney said. “Because you’ve been so informative to the people about everything, you would let us know, okay, it’s Scooter the one that slipped the sh-t on you or is it the company?”
Ryan Garcia stuck to his guns.
“Scooter gave me the supplements, I took the supplements, and then I tested positive,” Garcia replied. “I don’t know what he gave me. I’m being real with you, I don’t even got to be on this live. I’m being real.”
At this point Haney made perhaps the most salient point in asking Garcia why he floated all these conspiracy theories of being framed by Victor Conte and himself if he knew he was taking supplements last minute to presumably help lose weight (although Garcia denied the supplements were for that purpose).
“Because I am very skeptical,” Garcia responded in a stern tone. “Still to this day I’m skeptical. A man that was banned from another sport is helping you out. Devin Haney, in your son, can lose so much weight but then gain so much weight and still fight for 12 rounds. That screams cheating.”
