In a surprising move, Seniesa “Super Bad” Estrada (26-0, 9 KOs) has announced her retirement after 13 years as a pro in the sport.

The 32-year-old undisputed minimumweight world champion is leaving boxing at the top of the game after her recent 10-round unanimous decision win over IBF and WBO minimum weight champion Yokasta Valle on March 29th in Glendale, Arizona.

It’s unclear why Estrada is retiring after capturing the undisputed crown, as she’s at the top of her game, and her earning power would be higher than ever. However, she may think that winning the four belts at minimum weight is the goal she wants to achieve. Everything else would be more about maintaining.

13 years is a long career for anyone in the sport, and for many fighters who reach that point, it’s when they begin to consider retirement. It’s a rare person who continues when they’ve hit their early 30s.

Estrada, born in East Los Angeles, has had a great run in the last three years, capturing the WBO minimumweight title with a ten-round unanimous decision win over Anabel Ortiz in March 2021.

In July 2021, Estrada defeated WBO female junior flyweight champion Tenkai Tsunami and then captured the WBC female minimumweight title with a 10-round unanimous win over Tina Rupprecht.

“Seniesa Estrada is a spectacular person and fighter, and I know she can look forward to a happy and productive life outside the ring,” said promoter Bob Arum. “Everyone at Top Rank will miss promoting her boxing career.”

Estrada’s next career move is unclear. She reportedly has been in a movie already, and that may be something she plans on doing. Also, there’s the possibility of working as a boxing commentator. That would be an obvious choice for Estrada to go into next.
