His Excellency Turki Alalshikh has given Shakur Stevenson the new nickname “Outlaw” ahead of a potential fight against William Zepeda on a mega-card headlined by Terence Crawford vs. Vergil Ortiz Jr.

Fans Unconvinced by “Outlaw”

Fans on social media feel that “Outlaw” isn’t quite descriptive enough to sum up how Shakur Stevenson is viewed. They think a better monicker for the WBC lightweight champion would be one of these names:

– Runner
– Boring
– Mr. Safety First
– Hard to Watch

“Gone be like old days in 50s,” said Shakur Stevenson on X, reacting to news of him potentially fighting William Zepeda on a card headlined by Terence Crawford vs. Vergil Ortiz Jr.

Shakur’s fighting style is nothing like the “old days in 50” and more like Mayweather’s at the tail-end of his career, when he morphed into an avoidant, single-punch, dull pot-shot fighter. There is nothing in Shakur’s fighting style that is reminiscent of a fighter from the 1950s.

A Dangerous Fight for Stevenson

Shakur (22-0, 10 KOs) seems eager to face the unbeaten Zepeda (31-0, 27 KOs), but he could be walking into a massacre if he takes this fight. Zepeda can win and destroy Shakur’s legacy at the same time.

Edwin De Los Santos would have beaten Shakur last November if he knew how to cut off the ring on him when he was running around the ring all night in their title clash for the WBC 135-lb belt at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Zepeda is an expert at cutting off the ring, and he’ll force Shakur into exchanges that he’s incapable of handling with his weak power and limited offensive skills. This fight could replay Shakur’s loss to Cuban talent Robeisy Ramirez in the 2016 Olympic finals.

Shakur couldn’t handle Robeisy’s combination punching and was soundly beaten, winning a silver medal. Afterward, Shakur was strangely left crying without tears that looked feigned.

The Mexican warrior Zepeda is like an old-fashioned Gatling gun with his offense, and it would be too much for the single-shot, pot-gun style that Shakur uses in his fights. The New Jersey native Shakur’s offense could be overwhelmed with punches from Zepeda.
