Shakur Stevenson took to social media to taunt IBF featherweight champion Luis Alberto ‘Venado’ Lopez about his one-punch tenth-round knockout loss to Angelo Leo (25-2, 12 KOs) last Saturday night at the Tingley Coliseum in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Cashing in on the Upset

Immediately after the fight, Stevenson bragged about winning $12,000 from betting on Leo to win. Shakur posted on social media that he knew Luis Lopez (30-3, 17 KOs) would get knocked out, which is surprising because he’d never been knocked out before, and Angelo Leo is not known for having power.

Leo took advantage of Venado Lopez’s wreckless style, landing many combinations when he would leap in to throw his power shots. Although many of Lopez’s wild punches landed, many missed, and Leo routinely made him pay by tagging him.

“Thank you for winning me my money. I just made a light 12k because I knew you were going to get slumped. Now get to the gym and work on your defense and Maybe watch some of my tape,” said Shakur Stevenson to Luis Alberto ‘Venado’ Lopez on X, following his loss to Angelo Leo last Saturday night.

Eventually, Leo landed a perfect left hook to the head in the tenth round, knocking out Lopez. The time of the stoppage was at 1:16 of round ten.

Fans on social media criticized the referee for giving a traditional count while Lopez was badly hurt with his eyes open but knocked out. You could tell that Lopez had no chance of getting up, yet the referee still gave him an old-school count.

Pre-Fight Exchanges

Before the fight last night, Shakur had told his followers about his intention to bet against Venado Lopez, and he replied with this comment:

“Let me guess, you RAN to make the bet, like you do in all Your fights. #BoringFighter.”

Shakur’s comment after Venado Lopez’s loss was his way of getting back at him for commenting on his running and being a “boring fighter.”

Venado Lopez did make a good point about Shakur being “boring” to watch, and that’s going to be a problem unless he changes it. Even in losing the fight, Lopez was still far more entertaining to watch last night than Shakur’s previous two fights at 135. Those were dull fights.
