Middleweight Hamzah Sheeraz believes he’s already beaten Austin ‘Ammo’ Williams “mentally” ahead of their fight this Saturday night on DAZN PPV.
Now, Sheeraz (19-0, 15 KOs), Queensberry’s Team captain, says he intends on doing it “physically” when he needs the Matchroom fighter, ‘Ammo’ Williams (16-0, 11 KOs) in their twelve-round bout in the ‘5 vs. 5’ competition at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh.
Williams’ Theatrics and Nickname Change
Sheereaz found it interesting how Williams, 28, went theatrical, changing his persona when the cameras were on them during their face-to-face, and he started talking “a lot of smack.” So he felt he had to put him in his place with some comments.
Williams is now calling himself ‘Tiger,’ and it’s unclear whether he still intends to use ‘Ammo’ as his nickname. During today’s workout, Williams even wore a tiger tail, which looked odd.
If Williams is going to be using ‘Tiger’ as his new monicker, he might need to change the way he fights to be more aggressive to match that. Tigers jump on their prey from the get-go, and that’s not how Williams usually fights.
Mental and Spiritual Victory Already Achieved
“I don’t complain about not going longer because the shorter my fights, the longer my career goes. It’s as simple as that,” said Hamzah Sheeraz to Title Sports Network. “Hopefully, they continue to be short, and I knock everyone out.
“If you’re smart, you’d like to think so, and you do what you need to do to stay out of my way for a few rounds,” said Sheeraz about whether Ammo Williams expects him to start fast. “But even if you do that, I believe I’m a better fighter in the second half of the fight anyway. So, let’s see how it pans out.”
Williams played it safe in his last fight against Armel Mbumba-Yassa, and he’s nowhere near the puncher Hamzah is.
Williams will likely fight cautiously, trying not to get hit by Sheeraz early, and look to land something big in the second half. Williams is not a big puncher, though, and it would be a mistake to load up against Sheeraz.
“Punch him in the face really hard,” said Sheeraz when asked how he makes Ammo Williams regret taking the fight with him. “Just doing that. Beating him to the punch, beating him mentally, and beating him physically.
“I already beat him mentally and spiritually before the fight anyway. I already know that. Now, it’s just a matter of going in there and physically implementing a beating. I just know I have.”
It’s going to be an interesting fight if the match goes into the second half of the contest because Hamzah has been knocking out everybody early. Will he still be able to handle getting hit back by a fighter as good as Williams late in the fight?
“I’ve prepared for the best version of him, and done everything I needed to do to ensure I get the victory. I’ve got to take him serious. As soon as the cameras were on, he was a completely different person, and he was talking a lot of smack as well. So, I had to put him in his place a little bit, said Sheeraz about Williams.
