On the night of July 27, Detroit’s Little Caesars Arena will be the stage for a boxing extravaganza that’s more than just your average slugfest. Salita Promotions and 313 Presents are putting on “BIG TIME BOXING USA: SHIELDS VS. JOANISSE,” featuring none other than Claressa “GWOAT” Shields as she attempts to scribble her name yet again in the history books by nabbing the WBC Women’s Heavyweight World Championship from Vanessa Lepage-Joanisse.
The ringwalks for Shields vs. Lepage-Joanisse are scheduled for 12 a.m. ET / 5 a.m. UK with the event getting underway at 9 p.m. ET / 2 a.m. UK. The card will stream live on DAZN in over 200 countries across the globe.
The co-feature is a delicious setup with Michel “La Zarza Ali” Rivera duking it out with Hugo Alberto “Nato” Roldan in what promises to be a super lightweight showdown worth the price of admission alone. And let’s not forget Shohjahon “Descendant of Tamerlane” Ergashev and Julian “The Quiet Storm” Smith, who will also be throwing hands in a match that’s sure to be a quiet affair—just kidding, expect fireworks.
Diving into the depths of the un-televised dark waters, Ernesto “Tito” Mercado and Hector Edgardo “Pajarito” Sarmiento are set to collide in a super lightweight battle that’s almost too good for the shadows. On the lighter side of the night, Samantha Worthington will defend her impeccable record against Edina Kiss in a clash that screams mismatch on paper but might just surprise us all.
Lower down the card but not in excitement, Husam “Lion Heart” Al Mashhadi and Bruno Leonardo Romay will showcase their super welterweight skills, while Cameran “The Problem” Pankey and Shaileik Paisley do their best to steal the show in their featherweight tiff.
Not to be outdone, Danielle Perkins and Christianne Fahey are set to throw down in a heavyweight tangle that’s anything but dainty, and for a bit of local flavor, Detroit’s own Gordie Russ II and Josiah Shackleford will prove who’s the less beaten in their super welterweight scrap.
And just when you thought the night couldn’t get any more jam-packed, Flint’s Jaquan McElroy makes his pro debut against Travis Floyd.
