Oscar De La Hoya believes Shakur Stevenson vs William Zepeda will be fun because Shakur wants to prove he’s not a runner.

Golden Boy promoter Oscar De La Hoya speaks to Fight Hub TV about the recently announced fight between Shakur Stevenson and William Zepeda. De La Hoya says that while he admires the skill of Stevenson, his style isn’t one that’s unbeatable and is curious to see how he’ll deal with the relentless attack from Zepeda.

“It’s a great fight. Look, it’s a fight that Zepeda always wanted,” De La Hoya said. “Shakur’s dealings are his dealings but we feel Zepeda is ready, we feel Zepeda is going to win, obviously. He’s our fighter, we protect him, we take care of him, we groomed him to be in this position and to fight for a world title is incredible. This is what Zepeda wanted himself and kudos to him.

“It’s interesting because Shakur Stevenson is a masterclass boxer. He has a style that no many people can crack. Obviously you can crack it, there’s many ways of cracking that style, and I believe Zepeda has that style. Punches in bunches, I mean, he literally throws a thousand punches a fight. How is Shakur going to overcome that onslaught of relentlessness round after round after round?

“So it’s going to be an interesting fight, it’s going to be a fun fight. I think Shakur Stevenson is not a fighter to run anymore. I think he has a lot to prove, I think he wants to fight, he wants to fight for the fans, he wants to prove he’s not a runner so I think it’s going to be a fun fight.

“Shakur doing his own thing and fighting his own fight is always a dangerous fighter, who is always a dangerous fighter for anybody…but William Zepeda, we’re in his corner, we support him 1000%. I think he does have the relentlessness to go out there and shock the world, basically.”
