Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis’ coach, Calvin Ford, says IBF lightweight champion Vasily Lomachenko is a “great fight” for Tank to face in November in a unification at 135.

Lomachenko (18-3, 12 KOs) is one of the three fighters in the running for Tank Davis’ next fight following his eighth-round knockout of Frank Martin last Saturday night at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

A Fight the Public Wants to See

The boxing public would get excited about a fight between Tank and the former three-division world champion Lomachenko because it would be viewed as one that the Baltimore native might lose.

No one thought that about the Tank vs. Martin fight last Saturday. That was viewed as a mismatch from the jump, so there was so little buzz about it going into the clash.

If Tank wants to blame anyone about why his fight with Frank wasn’t generating interest, he needs to blame himself and his management for selecting him because it was viewed as another gimme.

Fans have criticized Gervonta for always taking sure-thing fights against soft guys who never stood a chance of beating him. Last Saturday’s fight against Frank was a prime example.

Lomachenko: A Different Story

Lomachenko is a different story. He’s someone who could output Tank, make him look silly, and take his WBA title like taking candy from a baby. Tank ain’t fought no one like Loma before, and he could get taken to school by the master boxer.

“It’s a great fight. It’s just the heads that need to put the fight together, and it’ll happen,” said coach Calvin Ford to the media about the talk of Tank Davis fighting Vasily Lomachenko in November. “I think that’s a great fight for the world.

“He’s going to. Look at every fighter that fought Tank. They got uplifted, every one of them. Go back and look,” said Ford about his belief that Frank Martin will get better than this. Every fighter that fights Tank gets uplifted.

“We made him a star,” said Ford about Isaac Cruz.

“I knew he was going to tire himself out; that was the whole game plan,” said Gervonta Davis to the media, talking about his eighth-round knockout win over Frank Martin last Saturday night.
