At “The Last Crescendo” card in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Terence Crawford and Teofimo Lopez Jnr appeared to make peace. Lopez had provoked Crawford’s ire over the past several months with a number of bizarre, racist statements.
When Crawford confronted Lopez directly, in a video posted to Crawford’s X account, Crawford put Lopez in his place. “I had to have a talk with teo before the fights,” Crawford wrote in the caption. “I’m not a bully, he good.”
“Tell them what you told me,” Crawford said to Lopez in the video, with his arm around the younger, smaller man. “What you doing it for?” he asked, referring to Lopez’s racist remarks.
“Promotion, baby,” Lopez responded, which seemed to satisfy Crawford as a concession.
“I ain’t gotta fuck him up,” Crawford said, grinning.
“We should spar,” Lopez said, perhaps trying to salvage a potential learning experience, or a relationship, with one of the top pound-for-pound boxers in the world. Crawford is headed north to 168lbs for an expected fight with Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, while Lopez last fought at 140lbs and seemed to lack the power he previously wielded at lightweight.
“Alright,” Crawford nodded, letting Lopez escape without a further loss of dignity, and the fighters held up peace signs and announced, “We out.”
