Conor Benn intends to finish Chris Eubank Jr in brutal fashion.
With a fight between Chris Eubank Jr and Conor Benn officially signed again, Benn takes some time to talk to Matchroom Boxing about what this opportunity means to him, why beating Eubank is more important to him than a world title, and how he intends on settling his animosity with Eubank by putting a hurting on him. Here’s some of what Benn had to say below.
Benn on his recent negotiations which ultimately ended in a fight with Eubank Jr
“I agreed to Eubank, I agreed to Barrios. I was under the impression for a long time that I’ll be fighting for the WBC world title but this one’s definitely more personal for sure.
On fighting Eubank at 160
“I happily jump up two weight divisions to beat him. I mean, everyone was concerned about his health and safety coming down three pounds. No problem, I come up to 160 and do exactly what I planned on doing first time around, and that is knocking him out. So irrelevant what weight, irrelevant of anything to me. Just give me an 18 foot ring, no three knockdown rule and the corner can’t save him and we’re good.”
On having much more personal animosity now with Eubank than they had when they were first supposed to fight
“I don’t want to knock him out for legacy reasons. I want to knock him out because it’s personal and I think he’s an idiot…I will go in there and knock him out, for sure.
“I believe I knock him out so badly that’s all he’ll be remembered for. The whole name, Eubank, would just be remembered based on this knockout…this isn’t about winning to me. This is about inflicting a lot of pain and knocking him out.
“I don’t even think about the 12th round, I don’t even think about my hand being raised, I think about the actual fight…I visualize pain, I visualize a lot of blood, I visualize missing teeth, I visualize him getting off the canvas a few times, I envision brutality, I envision modern day gladiator.
“I’d rather have a Eubank W on my record than a world title, for sure.”
