While the country of Ukraine is under attack three of their boxers posted victories this month.
Starting with two-time Olympic Gold Medalist Vasyl ‘Loma’ Lomachenko, now 18-3, won the vacant IBF World Lightweight and the IBO World Lightweight titles on May 12 stopping IBO champion George ‘Ferocious’ Kambosos, Jr., 21-2, in a one-sided fight down under in his native Australia to become a 3-division world champion.
Kambosos had defeated the man who defeated Lomachenko in Teofimo ‘The Takeover Lopez’ for his Light Welterweight titles.
Prior to Lomachenko’s victory, he went back to Ukraine to support his country against their Russian invasion. Former world heavyweight champion Vitali ‘Dr. Ironfist’ Klitschko is still there joining the fight.
His brother former world heavyweight champion Wladimir ‘Dr. Steelhammer’ Klitschko was recently seen at the Kingdom Arena, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on the 18th of May where Ukraine’s WBA, WBO, IBF, and IBO World heavyweight and former Olympic Gold Medalist and Unified World Cruiserweight champion Oleksandr Usyk, 22-0, added the WBC title winning a split decision over the WBC champion ‘The Gypsy King’ Tyson Fury, 34-1-1, to become the unified champion. Their rematch is set for sometime in October back in Saudi Arabia.
Also, on the 18th that night, Ukraine’s 2012 Olympic Silver Medalist Denys Berinchyk, now 19-0, defeated 3-division world champion Emanuel ‘Vaquero’ Navarrete, now 38-2-1, by a split decision for the vacant IBF World Lightweight title in San Diego, California.
That’s three fighters from the Ukraine this month winning and are all world champions.
