Super middleweight contender Trevor McCumby is set to face former IBF titleholder Caleb Plant on Saturday at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The bout will be part of the undercard for the pay-per-view headlined by Saul “Canelo” Alvarez vs. Edgar Berlanga.
McCumby (28-0, 21 KOs), 31, has remained respectful in the build-up but hasn’t held back in his predictions. In a ProBox TV interview, McCumby said he believes he will make Plant (22-2, 13 KOs) “quit” in the ring—a comment Plant didn’t take lightly. McCumby stood by his words, saying, “On September 14, we are going to see.”
“There’s no animosity, but I am coming for your heart,” McCumby added, holding his child during the interview.
When asked about his strategy, McCumby predicted a late stoppage.
“Once we adapt and figure it out, I think it’s going to be an eighth- or ninth-round knockout,” McCumby said at Tuesday’s grand arrivals.
Both fighters have trained in Las Vegas for this fight, albeit at different gyms. McCumby is 3-0 since returning to the ring after a nearly five-year hiatus from 2018 to 2023. Plant has been inactive since his pay-per-view loss to David Benavidez in March 2023.
“I feel great, training camp has never been better,” McCumby said. “It’s just another fight for me, and I’m going to handle business.”
