Doctors have not yet cleared Tszyu for full contact following the nasty cut he received against Sebastian Fundora.

Tim Tsyzu’s next fight won’t be coming this summer against Vergil Ortiz after all. Following news that he was to face Ortiz on a August 3 card headlined by Terence Crawford vs Israil Madrimov, it’s now being reported by ESPN that Tszyu was forced to withdraw under medical advice.

Tsyzu suffered an unfortunately gruesome cut against Sebastian Fundora in his last outing and doctors have still not cleared him for full contact sparring, which won’t allow him time to be adequately prepared to take on Ortiz in August.

“We are bitterly disappointed with the setback, and Tim is extremely frustrated after a great precamp with Kostya,” Rose, the CEO of No Limit Boxing, said. “He showed everyone that he’ll fight through anything against Fundora, but this decision was taken out of his hands to be honest. Ultimately, it was his body and medical professionals telling him he wasn’t ready yet.”

It’s now being reported that Serhii Bohachuk may be in the running to replace Tszyu against Ortiz, but that has yet to be made official. We’ll keep you posted as more information becomes available.
