Turki Alalshikh has ruled out working with former junior middleweight champion Tim Tszyu and hit back at Canelo Alvarez’s recent comments.
Alalshikh announced that he had cut ties with Tszyu after Vergil Ortiz Jr. defeated Serhii Bohachuk on Saturday (August 10). Tszyu and Ortiz were due to face each other on the undercard of the Terence Crawford vs. Israil Madrimov Riyadh Season card, but the Australian withdrew due to a cut he sustained against Sebastian Fundora.
The contest between the two was planned to be rescheduled but Alalshikh revealed plans after Ortiz’s win for him to now face Crawford. There were question marks over the relationship between Alalshikh and Tszyu after the Saudi Arabian revealed he wasn’t sure what Tszyu’s intentions were during the Crawford-Madrimov event.
It now looks as though communication between Alalshikh and Tszyu has completely broken down. “I will not work with Tim Tszyu,” Alalshikh told Fight Hub TV. “Let him do his way, he doesn’t understand.”
Another fighter Alalshikh has seemingly ruled out working with is Alvarez after the Mexican recently stated he felt disrespected. Alalshikh had planned to make a fight between Alvarez and Crawford but the Mexican reportedly turned the offer down.
“[Canelo] said he doesn’t like what we’re doing in boxing,” said Alalshikh. “This is why I said what I said, and I mean it. If he was a wise guy, he would understand the message, if he’s wise. His ego takes him, let him do his way.”
