Tyson Fury has announced his retirement from boxing, or at least his newest retirement from boxing.
Tyson Fury has announced his retirement from boxing, or perhaps more accurately, Tyson Fury has announced his latest retirement from boxing.
The 36-year-old self-styled “Gypsy King” lost two fights to Oleksandr Usyk in 2024.
“Hi, everybody, I’m going to make this short and sweet. I’d like to announce my retirement from boxing,” Fury said in a post on social media. “It’s been a blast. I’ve loved every single minute of it, and I’m going to end with this: Dick Turpin wore a mask. God bless everybody, see you on the other side. Get up!”
Fury (34-2-1, 24 KO) has, as mentioned, “retired” from boxing before. It’s more likely to stick every time he does it, so this is the newest “most likely to stick” instance, and if he’s financially set — which he’s said he is — then sure, we really may have seen Fury fight for the final time.
There are, however, major money options in 2025 and beyond. We know Eddie Hearn has Wembley Stadium reserved for the summer for a possible Fury vs Anthony Joshua fight; that would go down as unfinished business for both if it never happens, but you can also see a Fury perspective that takes some pride in never having to fight Anthony Joshua, and Fury is a peculiar sort of guy, so that might actually matter to him.
We’ll see how long this lasts and how seriously people really take it, but for now, officially by his own word, Tyson Fury is retired. Again.
