Ryan Garcia expects Rolando Romero to bring a good effort but says it won’t keep him from getting stopped.

Ryan Garcia talks to Ring Magazine about his upcoming fight against Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero on May 2 as he keeps an eye towards a rematch against arch rival Devin Haney. Garcia admits he can’t bring himself to say much about Haney because he’s being sued by the fighter, but says he just wants to get him inside the ring once more. Here’s some excerpts of what Garcia had to say.

Garcia on facing Rolando Romero

“I think just my experience and my overall abilities is just much better than his. I think he’s going to come hard to fight because he’s in a great opportunity and he’s confident. So I think we’re going to see a good fight but ultimately I’m going to knock him out.”

On if he think Romero is an evolved fighter since their past sparring

“Not really, to be honest. I just see him making a lot of the same mistakes, still kind of fighting the same. He hasn’t really made that many adjustments, to be honest. His chin actually looks like it’s gotten a lot weaker.”

On being on a big card with a lot of his contemporary rivals

“I think it’s great for the sport. I think that it’s a big indication on where the sport could be heading, especially with a player like Turki. I know some people have bad feelings about him but to me, he’s the thing that I’ve always wanted, somebody to bring the big fights together and I think he’s doing an amazing job and everybody should be applauding what he’s bringing together and not talking down on it.”

On being in the same press events as Haney and keeping it classy

“Well I keep it classy for one reason, he’s suing me. At the end of the day I don’t know what I could tell him. Everything I said is now used against me so I don’t know what to say to him…I just realized that he’s that much of a b-tch and maybe he’ll sue me for saying that…this is the weak state of mind this man has.

“He’s taking words and using words against me in the court of law so at the end of the day I don’t got nothing to say to these guys. I just want to beat his ass again and that’s it. I don’t have to say anything more, I already proved it. I beat his ass.”
