Who will win the highly anticipated rematch between the two best heavyweights in the world, Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury? Revenge or repeat?
Back in May, Usyk made boxing history when he beat Fury by 12 round split decision to become the first undisputed world heavyweight champion in the modern 4-belt era. Usyk has since vacated the IBF belt after being pressured by the organization. Make no mistake, however, Oleksandr is the one and only true world heavyweight champion. (Indeed, he already holds a victory over reigning IBF heavyweight title holder, Daniel Dubois).
Their first fight was a very competitive and entertaining closely contested battle where Usyk and Fury both had stretches of success. The big difference in the official outcome was the iconic moment in round 9, where Usyk had Fury badly hurt with a left hand. Usyk then proceeded to land a prolonged flurry against Fury, as he staggered from one side of the ring to the other, with Usyk hammering him throughout the relentless pursuit. Fury ultimately crash landed into the ropes, at which point the referee officially ruled a knockdown. At the end of the night, Usyk was awarded a 12 round split decision victory. Two judges scored it for Usyk, 115-112 and 114-113, while the third judge generously scored the bout for Fury 114-113.
