Beginning with the Boxing Day or Reckoning back in December, the lethargic heavyweight division suddenly sprang into action, in large part because of the efforts of Turki Al Sheikh where he has been bankrolling a lot of big fights that boxing fans want to see, especially in the heavyweight division.
The biggest fight of them all happened last month when Oleksandr Usyk made boxing history with his victory against Tyson Fury.
Usyk scored an official knockdown in round 9 and ultimately won the fight by 12 round split decision. With that victory Usyk became the first undisputed world heavyweight champion since the great Lennox Lewis last held that distinction nearly a quarter century ago, and the victory also marked Usyk as the first undisputed world heavyweight champion during the modern 4 belt era.
The Usyk vs Fury fight was just one of many fights happening in Saudi Arabia where more and more top heavyweights are squaring off and jockeying for position to earn a title shot. Among the bigger fights that have taken place at heavyweight, Anthony Joshua has faced and beaten both Otto Wallin and Francis Ngannou, Joseph Parker holds a pair of impressive victories against Deontay Wilder and Zhilei Zhang, Zhang holds a recent knockout win against Wilder, Daniel Dubois bounced back from his loss against Usyk with victories against Jarrell Miller and Filip Hrgovic, and Agit Kabayel has significantly raised his profile with notable victories against Arslanbek Makhmudov and Frank Sanchez. There is also more action ahead, with Andy Ruiz Jr scheduled to face Jarrell Miller in August, and of course the highly anticipated rematch between Usyk and Fury scheduled for December.
