The WBC has tapped super featherweight sluggers Eduardo Hernandez and Mark Magsayo for a final eliminator later this year

Multiple outlets report that the WBC has ordered top-ranked super featherweight contenders Eduardo “Rocky” Hernandez and Mark Magsayo to meet in a final eliminator.

Magsayo’s (27-2, 18 KO) longtime promoter Sean Gibbons tells Ryan Songalia that “negotiations are underway” to hold the fight Stateside in June. “Magnifico” is 3-0, beating Eduardo Ramirez and a pair of limited opponents, since consecutive losses to Rey Vargas and Brandon FIgueroa ended his featherweight tenure.

Between his experience at the weight and valiant losing performance against O’Shaquie Foster, whom he could face again with a victory here, Hernandez (37-2, 32 KO) looks to be the favorite on paper. That said, it hasn’t always been a smooth road for “Rocky,” who notably seemed to be losing momentum against Thomas Mattice last September before a clash of heads prompted a premature trip to the judges.

Stylistically, there’s a lot to love about this one. Both have a history of slobberknockers and a noteworthy gap between their offensive and defensive skills. Let’s hope this one gets over the line.
