The World Boxing Organization (WBO), in tandem with the Jake Paul-managed non-profit organization Boxing Bullies, inaugurated the newly rehabilitated Titanes Boxing Academy gym at Luis Martínez Lago Park in Morovis, Puerto Rico.
The center’s facilities were modernized through the combined work of the WBO and Boxing Bullies, which have joined forces to improve boxing centers across the island.
“Today is a happy day for our city,” said Carmen Maldonado Gonzalez, the mayor of Morovis.
Gonzalez thanked the WBO and Boxing Bullies for its $40,000 donation put toward in improvements at Titanes Boxing Academy, which will be named in honor of Hector “Ye” Arroyo, the first native of Morovis to represent Puerto Rico in the Olympics, at the 1988 Seoul Games in South Korea.
“These are the initiatives we have to support,” said Hall of Famer and three-division titleholder Felix Trinidad, perhaps Puerto Rico’s greatest-ever fighter. “It’s what boxing needs and what our athletes need to give their best. You can count on me for these events.”
Among the cities with gyms recently rehabilitated by the WBO and Boxing Bullies are Bayamon, Carolina, Canovanas, Guaynabo, Guayama, Utuado, Vieques and Toa Baja.
