The WBO has scheduled for August 9 a purse bid for a proposed fight between the WBO flyweight champion Anthony Olascuaga and the former title holder Jonathan “La Bomba” Gonzalez.

Olascuaga (7-1, 5 KOs) secured the vacant title in July by defeating Riku Kano in the three rounds in Japan. The 25 year old Olascuaga has won his past two fights after losing to Kenshiro Teraji in April 2023, and trains out of Los Angeles under Rudy Hernandez.

Gonzalez (28-3-1, 14 KOs) has primarily competed at flyweight but moved down to junior flyweight following knockout defeats by Jobert Alvarez in 2016 and Kosei Tanaka for the WBO flyweight title in 2019.

The 33 year old claimed the WBO light-flyweight title with a split-decision victory over Elwin Soto in 2021, and defended it three times before multiple bout cancellations in 2023. Gonzalez, aiming to become a two-division champion, is managed by Amanda Serrano.
