A heated moment between Ryan Garcia and Teofimo Lopez stole the show at a press conference

A heated moment between Ryan Garcia and Teofimo Lopez stole the show at the press conference for their May 2 fights.

Ryan Garcia and Teofimo Lopez aren’t facing one another next, but they will fight on the same May 2 card in New York, and a brief interaction between the two really stole the show at today’s press conference.

After kicking off the presser with its first fighter comments and getting back-and-forth chippy with opponent Arnold Barboza Jr, Lopez sat and listened to the show’s other four main fighters — Devin Haney, Jose Ramirez, Rolly Romero, and Garcia — talk in much more civil fashion, which led to the occasional groan into his mic or quick comment.

Eventually, as Garcia spoke, Teofimo piped up to speak about being the Ring champion at 140 lbs, and Garcia lost his cool a bit.

“We don’t give a fuck,” Garcia shouted. “We don’t give a fuck what you are, bro, enough of this shit. I’m tired of hearing this shit. Enough of this shit.”

Garcia also suggested that he and Teofimo will fight in the future: “We’re gonna run this. Remember that,” he added.

Lopez said he was just bored with the press conference.

“You guys are so boring, you guys are talking so politely to each other,” he said. “This is crazy. What the fuck is this? Ain’t nobody talking shit right now. This is crazy.”

There also came a moment, as Garcia spoke about his mental health issues, where he said he doesn’t know who else struggles with those matters, and Lopez chimed in, “Shit, I do.”

After Garcia was done, Lopez said, “You inspire us all, Ryan,” then mockingly clapped and began laughing in his seat.
