Logic dictates that we’re rapidly closing in on the end of the current heavyweight era, as each of Oleksandr Usyk, Tyson Fury, Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder edge towards middle age. But might we still be talking about them this time next year?

Lucas Ketelle: Of course – when don’t we? Though I think Wilder and Joshua will start to see their star dim dramatically in 2025.

Owen Lewis: Anybody talking about Wilder even now in any context besides “he should retire” needs to have their boxing fan credentials revoked. He is clearly a ‘shot’ fighter. Usyk figures to retain relevance even in the event of a decline, though, and Joshua and Fury will probably fight each other. And if any of these fighters do decide to hang up the gloves, this heavyweight era merits some fond reminiscing in 2025.

Declan Warrington: Yes. Usyk will still be great, Fury will at the very least still be very loud, Joshua will still be marketable, and, even if Joshua fights and loses to Fury, if he and Wilder want it to, a date between them would still sell. Such are the benefits of being a heavyweight – particularly in one of the most appealing eras we’ve seen.

Lance Pugmire: Usyk is the best bet because he’s the last man standing among the field. The Joshua-Fury fight remains beyond relevant and can certainly occupy our attention during the build-up and the fight, but Usyk wearing three of the belts gives him the cache to stage significant bouts until he decides he’s had enough.

Bernard Neequaye: I think Josua, Tyson Fury, and Oleksandr Usyk will still be relevant, but I doubt if Deontay Wilder will be by the end of 2025. The only thing that comes to mind when Wilder’s name pops is retirement and with defeats to Joseph Parker and Zhilei Zhang, it looks inevitable.

Eric Raskin: Wilder, not so much. The others, yes, absolutely. They’re the three biggest names in the heavyweight division, and even if Fury and Joshua appear to be in slight decline, they’re not going away over the next 12 months.

Matt Christie: Of course we will. Wilder looks shot to bits but any of the rest are capable of a big performance to prolong the current heavyweight era by at least one more year. And even if they all lose or retire in 2025, which seems unlikely, the fact that the end of that era has arrived will be one of the biggest stories of the year.

Elliot Worsell: Possibly. Yet there remains a sense that their generation has now either passed or is in the process of ending. It was carried for so long by what-ifs? and the collective frustration of the best avoiding each other, but now, thanks to Oleksandr Usyk, we have all the answers we could need.

Tris Dixon: Hard to say, but feasibly this generation could be wrapped up by the end of 2025 for a number of reasons. Maybe Fury and Joshua would have fought one another, somewhat satisfying that itch for the UK fight fans, maybe Usyk would have walked off into the sunset, and maybe Wilder will have realized it wasn’t there anymore.
