William Zepeda will have too much offensive firepower for the clever veteran Tevin Farmer to deal with in their 10-round lightweight fight in 24 days on November 16th at The Venue in Riyadh Season. The fight will be shown live on DAZN.
Zepeda averages 100+ punches thrown per round, which is an absurd number, especially with the power he throws his shots with.
Farmer To Use Shakur Defensive Approach
It’s going to be next to impossible for Farmer to survive long under that kind of steady bombardment without adopting the Shakur Stevenson approach: moving nonstop for 12 rounds, trying not to get hit, and hoping to win by a decision with a few potshots.
That’s probably not going to be effective at stopping Zepeda because he focuses his punches to the body against fighters that move a lot. Farmer will have to stand and fight Zepeda because using the safety-first Shakur-esque style won’t be effective. Zepeda has fought many runners in his native Mexico and knows how to bring them to heel.
The #1 ranked Zepeda is using Farmer as a tuneup to prepare himself to challenge the unbeaten Shakur (22-0, 10 KOs) for his WBC lightweight title in February 2025. Shakur recently signed a two-fight deal with Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing.
Zepeda Could Ruin Hearn’s Plans
The British promoter Hearn’s grand vision is for Shakur to defeat Zepeda and then face WBA champion Gervonta Davis in a unification fight. Zepeda could ruin those plans by defeating Shakur and potentially facing Tank Davis in 2025 if the Baltimore native’s management at PBC agrees to that fight.
Farmer, 34, is the underdog, and his only chance of defeating Zepeda is to shut down his offense. That’s not going not going to be easy. During his nine-year career, no one has done that yet, and he’s looking better with every fight.
The 28-year-old Zepeda is coming into his fight with Farmer having knocked out his last four opponents, destroying these fighters:
– Giovanni Cabrera: KO 3
– Maxi Hughes: RTD 4
– Mercito Gesta: TKO 6
– Jaime Arboleta: KO 2
Cabrera and Hughes are arguably better fighters than Farmer, and neither of those guys could make it to the halfway point of the contest.
Zepeda (31-0, 27 KOs) and the former IBF super Featherweight champion Farmer (33-6-1, 8 KOs) are the chief support on the cruiserweight unification bout between WBA champion Gilberto ‘Zurdo’ Ramirez and WBO champ Chris Billiam-Smith.
