Undefeated junior middleweight contender Xander Zayas (18-0, 12 KOs) weighed in at 153.4 lbs, while his opponent Patrick Teixeira (34-4, 25 KOs) also came in at 153.4 pounds at Friday’s weigh-in for their ten-round headliner this Saturday, June 8th and live on ESPN at the Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
Saturday’s main event starts at 11:00 p.m. ET/8:00 p.m. PT on ESPN, ESPN Deportes & ESPN+.
Zayas is a fighter who is being groomed for world title honors, but he needs some step-up-level competition to get him better prepared to take on the killers in the division.
The 21-year-old Zayas, ranked #5 WBO, #7 WBC and #13 IBF, takes on the heavy-handed Teixeira. This fight will put the Top Rank-promoted Zayas in a better position to challenge for a world title. He’s not quite ready yet, but he will be soon.

“Xander Zayas is the toughest test,” said Zayas to Fighthype when asked who is the toughest test at 154. “Whoever they put in front of me. Styles make fights. You have to prepare for it differently every time. I know whoever they put in front of me next, I’m going to put on a show like we always do.
“Miguel Cotto. He’s someone I grew up watching and I admire as a person and a boxer and somebody I look up to,” said Zayas when asked who he admires the most of the Puerto Rican fighters.”
