The WBO bantamweight champion Yoshiki Takei will return to the ring in May, according to his promoter Hideyuki Ohashi.
In the aftermath of Naoya Inoue defending his undisputed super-bantamweight Title against Ye Joon Kim, Ohashi has revealed that Takei will likely headline a promotion on May 28. The fight date will represent the first professional boxing promotion at the 5,000-seat Yokohama BUNTAI Arena.
Takei was scheduled to fight on the undercard of Inoue-SamGoodman on December 24, but had to withdraw, owing to a shoulder injury. The 28 year old regardless assured his followers that he would “definitely be back stronger than ever”, when speaking at Inoue-Kim.
The fight in May is expected to be against his previously planned opponent, Yuttapong Tongdee of Thailand. Victory would pave the way for a highly anticipated Japanese super fight with the former kickboxing champion and superstar Tenshin Nasukawa, who is set to fight Jason Moloney in a WBO title eliminator on February 24.
Takei, 28, defeated Moloney via unanimous decision in May 2024, to win the WBO title on the undercard of Inoue-Luis Nery.
