Jermall Charlo Responds To Plant’s Callout: “I’ll Give You Plant”

Caleb Plant called out Jermall Charlo today on Instagram, telling him that he’s interested in “locking horns” to settle their beef. Jermall had gotten into an altercation in July 2023, leading to Plant slapping him with a left hand. The two never settled their differences, and it’s now going on two years since that slap.

Turki’s Choice

ESPN leaked that Charlo (33-0, 22 KOs) is one of the two options under consideration for Canelo Alvarez’s next fight on May 4th in Riyadh. If Turki offers Jermall a big payday of millions, he’ll likely jump at the opportunity.

This will be Canelo’s first fight of his four-fight deal with Turki Al-Sheikh’s Riyadh Season. He says he wants a “great fight” for Alvarez to build up his match against Terence Crawford on September 13th.

If Canelo chooses to fight Bruno Surace, Jermall will be free to fight Plant if he’s serious about taking that match. Surace is the other option leaked by Mike Coppinger for Canelo’s May 4th in Riyadh. The only advantages for Canelo fighting Surace over Jermall are he’s unbeaten, young at 26, and coming off a knockout win over Jaime Munguia. In contrast, Jermall is 34, hasn’t fought since 2023, and has only seen action once since 2021.

The former IBF super middleweight champion Plant (23-2, 14 KOs) needs an opponent after his impressive ninth-round knockout win over Trevor McCumby on September 14th last year in Las Vegas. That was Plant’s first fight since his loss to David Benavidez in 2023.

Plant’s Challenge

It could come down to whether Turki wants Jermall Charlo for Canelo because if he does, he’s got the money to get him. Plant would have to go in another direction.
