Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis has informed super featherweight prospect Curmel Moton that he’s no longer on his June 15th card in Houston after his social media post.

Moton’s Social Media Support for Mayweather

On Friday, the talented 17-year-old Moton (3-0, 2 KOs) posted on X, showing his support for his promoter Floyd Mayweather Jr., saying “Best team in boxing.” Moments later, Tank Davis responded to Moton’s post, letting him know, “You a** won’t be on the June 15 card either.”

Fans see Tank’s reaction as one due to Moton taking sides in the Baltimore native’s beef with his former promoter Mayweather, who has been going after on social media this week.

Card Loses Appeal Without Potential Star

It’s not good for Gervonta (29-0, 27 KOs) to have Curmel Moton off his June 15th card because it would have made the event more interesting for fans. The good news is that David Benavidez is still fighting on Tank’s undercard against Oleksandr Gvozyk, but that’s far from a greater fight.

However, the combination of PBC having Tank Davis and Benavidez on the same card will attract fans to purchase the event on Amazon Prime Video PPV, provided the price isn’t too steep and they’re not forced into an expensive subscription to go along with it.

Tank is defending his WBA secondary lightweight title against Frank Martin, and the fans aren’t excited at seeing this mismatch. Martin looked horrible in his last fight, struggling badly to defeat Artem Harutyunyan by a razor-close 12-round unanimous decision in July.

Mayweather’s New Protégé

Moton is arguably being groomed by Mayweather as the replacement for Tank Davis with his promotional company, but one that is expected to face the best without swerving the top-level competition.

That’s the main criticism fans have about Tank. He’s got talent, but he’s never faced the elite-level fighters throughout his 11-year professional career. It’s believed that Moton will be a different type of fighter, willing to take risks by fighting the best and headed towards superstardom.

Unfortunatly for Tank, he’s not become popular with casual boxing fans due to his poor self-promotion, and and failure to take the risks needed.

While Tank’s last fight against Ryan Garcia did excellent numbers on PPV, many feel the reason for that is due to Kingry’s popularity on social media with his 11 million Instagram followers and the hard work he put into promoting the event. Tank pretty much just went along for the ride just like Devin Haney did when he fought Ryan.
