Leonard Ellerbe believes Jaime Munguia the perfect style matchup for Canelo Alvarez.

Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe talks to Fight Hype about a few topics, including Canelo’s upcoming fight against Jaime Munguia, Gervonta Davis formally announcing his fight with Frank Martin, and how the Devin Haney vs Ryan Garcia fight turned out. Check out some of what he had to say below.

Ellerbe on the upcoming Canelo vs Munguia fight

“Well I’m really excited for the Canelo vs Munguia fight. It’s a good opportunity for Canelo to really make a big statement on Saturday night, Cinco de Mayo, in front of all his fans around the world. He’s taking on obviously Jaime Munguia which should be a very, very entertaining bout.

“You know, Munguia’s style is come forward and the way I see it just going one way, Canelo gonna light his ass up. And I fully expect this fight to end in a knockout and it’ll be something the fans can really get excited about.

“[Munguia’s] tailor made for him in my opinion and this will be one of Canelo’s better performances actually in his career.”

On Gervonta Davis vs Frank Martin

“Oh my God. That’s going to be on fire. I’m really, really looking forward to that one. Obviously everybody knows Tank’s my guy. So, again, excited to see him fight Frank. Frank is a very solid fighter but there’s levels to this thing, really is levels to this thing and Tank will be looking to do what he do.”

On the Haney vs Garcia outcome

“I wasn’t surprised at all…I wasn’t surprised. I was not picking Ryan per se, but it did not surprise me at all. Both two very good fighters. Ryan did his thing, you have to give him props. You have to give Haney credit for showing he has a big heart, getting up off the canvas a few times. So it was a very good fight.”

On if Team Haney made mistakes on their side, such as taking the money to allow Garcia a weight advantage

“[Chuckles]. To be honest I really don’t want to get into that. Yeah, mistakes were made, but it’s nothing that Haney can’t come back from.”
